Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate multi-spindle and vertical turret lathes to produce precision parts for the automotive and avionics industries.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and detailed drawings to understand machining requirements and specifications.
  • Select and set up appropriate tooling and fixtures for machining operations, optimizing for materials such as aluminum, steel, stainless steel, titanium, and composites.
  • Adjust machine settings to achieve desired accuracy, surface finish, and production efficiency.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of lathe machinery to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Collaborate with engineering and quality control teams to ensure parts meet stringent industry standards.
  • Document machining parameters and outcomes to facilitate process optimization and continuous improvement.

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Technical certification or associate degree in machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field preferred.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience as a Lathe Operator within the automotive or avionics industries.
  • Proficiency in operating multi-spindle and vertical turret lathes.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Extensive knowledge of tooling selection and setup for various materials common in the avionics and automotive sectors.
  • Solid troubleshooting skills with the ability to identify and resolve machining issues promptly.
  • Familiarity with optimizing machining parameters for different materials to ensure quality and efficiency.
