Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Program and operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) using software such as PC-DMIS or Calypso to ensure high precision in medical device manufacturing.
  • Apply knowledge of metrology and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) to accurately measure and analyze components.
  • Use CAD/CAM software, including NX or Catia, to create and modify drawings and models for measurement programs.
  • Operate and maintain Bridge CMMs and Multisensor CMMs, ensuring equipment is calibrated and functioning correctly.
  • Work closely with manufacturing and quality assurance teams to develop measurement strategies for new products and improvements to existing products.
  • Analyze measurement data and provide detailed reports to support manufacturing and quality decisions.
  • Train and assist other CMM operators or technicians in best practices and standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements in the healthcare and medical device sectors.


  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, or related field preferred.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5-7 years’ experience in CMM programming within the healthcare or medical device manufacturing industries.
  • Proficiency in CMM programming using PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar software.
  • Strong background in metrology and a solid understanding of GD&T principles.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software, such as NX or Catia, for creating and modifying drawings and models.
  • Hands-on experience with Bridge CMMs and Multisensor CMMs.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and quality systems applicable to the medical device industry, such as FDA regulations and ISO 13485.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in CMM programming or metrology.
  • Experience in a regulated environment, specifically with FDA-regulated products.
  • Advanced training in CAD/CAM software.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to lead projects and mentor junior staff.
