Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to inspect precision aerospace components, ensuring they meet strict industry standards.
- Develop, modify, and optimize CMM programs for various inspection tasks using software platforms such as PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar.
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications to accurately measure and assess components.
- Work with Horizontal Arm CMMs and/or Gantry CMMs to perform inspections and measurements.
- Utilize AutoCAD for drafting and reviewing component specifications and tolerances.
- Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to troubleshoot issues and improve product quality.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of inspection results and processes.
- Implement and adhere to quality assurance protocols and procedures.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate degree or certification in a relevant technical field preferred (e.g., Mechanical Engineering Technology, Quality Control).
Required Skills and Experience
- 5+ years’ experience as a CMM Operator within the aerospace, space, or defense industries.
- Proficiency in using CMM software platforms such as PC-DMIS, Calypso, or similar.
- Hands-on experience with Horizontal Arm CMMs and/or Gantry CMMs.
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD for reviewing and drafting component specifications.
- In-depth understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) as per ASME Y14.5.
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in CMM operation or programming.
- Experience with ISO 9001, AS9100, or similar quality management systems.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement practices.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-paced environment.
