Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough site inspections and evidence collection for structures that have experienced failures or defects.
- Perform detailed structural analyses using state-of-the-art technology and methodologies.
- Engage in comprehensive failure analysis to determine the causes of structural collapses or deficiencies.
- Provide expert testimony in legal settings, articulating complex engineering concepts in understandable terms.
- Collaborate with various industry professionals, including architects, engineers, and construction managers.
- Prepare clear and detailed reports documenting investigative findings and recommendations.
- Utilize advanced software tools such as REVIT, AutoCAD, SAP2000, ETABS, FEA tools, and SketchUp for analysis and reconstruction modeling.
- Participate in continual learning and development activities to stay current with industry standards and technologies.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required. A Master’s degree in a related field is highly preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or Structural Engineer (SE) certification is desirable.
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in forensic structural engineering.
- Proven track record in site inspection, evidence collection, and structural/failure analysis.
- Experience in providing expert testimony in legal proceedings.
- Proficiency in using software such as REVIT, AutoCAD, SAP2000, ETABS, FEA tools, and SketchUp.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills.
