We are an Engineering and IT staffing agency in search of an experience System Administrator for a client. Our client is an advanced technology solutions provider focused on full-spectrum wireless communications system development. Serving clients in cybersecurity, defense, aerospace, healthcare, and enterprise IT transformation, they specialize in end-to-end services—from analysis and simulation to RF design, embedded development, and prototyping. With a multidisciplinary team of engineers and systems experts, they support critical infrastructure and research programs for commercial and government applications alike.

As their technical environment continues to evolve to meet high-availability, secure, and scalable demands, the System Administration team plays a pivotal role in keeping the infrastructure optimized for real-time data flow, secure communications, and performance engineering.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

We are seeking a System Administrator with deep technical experience and a proactive mindset to support diverse environments consisting of Linux, Windows, and cloud-based systems. This individual will maintain, monitor, and enhance the IT infrastructure that supports engineering development, communications prototyping, and secure data processing.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage and maintain Windows and Linux-based servers used for simulation, software development, and secure communications environments
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot network services (e.g., DHCP, DNS, LDAP, NTP, SMTP, SMB, RADIUS)
  • Support hybrid environments, including on-premise systems, private clouds, and public cloud platforms like AWS and Azure
  • Deploy, patch, and secure operating systems, middleware, and services according to NIST 800-53, DISA STIG, and CIS benchmarks
  • Set up and manage virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware vSphere, Hyper-V, Proxmox, or KVM)
  • Collaborate with DevOps and engineering teams to ensure systems support real-time communications, RF testing platforms, and software-defined radios (SDRs)
  • Implement centralized logging, backup, and disaster recovery systems using tools like Veeam, Commvault, ELK Stack, or Graylog
  • Manage user accounts, permissions, and group policies using Active Directory, GPO, and Azure AD
  • Monitor system performance, availability, and capacity using tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, PRTG, or SolarWinds
  • Support endpoint management for engineering workstations, lab systems, and field-deployable communication devices
  • Maintain documentation including network diagrams, change logs, SOPs, and incident response protocols

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Equivalent experience or military background in information systems and secure communications may also be considered

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience as a System Administrator, IT Systems Engineer, or equivalent technical role
  • Proficiency in Linux (Ubuntu, RHEL, CentOS) and Windows Server (2016/2019/2022) environments
  • Experience configuring and managing virtualization platforms like VMware ESXi, KVM, or Hyper-V
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing and switching, VLANs, VPN, and firewall rules
  • Familiarity with scripting for automation (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python)
  • Hands-on experience with Active Directory, DNS, GPO, and remote access tools
  • Experience supporting secure or air-gapped environments in compliance with FISMA, ITAR, or NIST standards
