We are an engineering and manufacturing staffing agency with a niche in recruiting Supply Chain Engineers for clients in the Power & Energy industries. Our client is a rapidly growing clean tech company on the forefront of industrial decarbonization and grid modernization. They have developed a revolutionary energy system that enables continuous, zero-carbon industrial heat by converting intermittent renewable electricity—from sources like solar and wind—into high-temperature thermal energy stored in proprietary heat-retaining bricks.

This breakthrough technology supports industries such as steel, glass, cement, and chemical processing by delivering consistent high-temperature thermal energy while helping them transition away from fossil fuels. Headquartered in a state-of-the-art facility, the company is scaling rapidly and building a world-class supply chain to support large-scale deployment of its next-generation energy storage and delivery platform.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

As a Supply Chain Engineer, you will play a mission-critical role in designing, optimizing, and scaling the company’s supply chain infrastructure to support full lifecycle manufacturing and delivery of high-temperature thermal energy systems. You will work cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, operations, logistics, and procurement teams to ensure on-time, cost-effective, and quality-compliant sourcing of materials and components.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute supply chain strategies that support product development, pilot programs, and large-scale commercial deployment of thermal energy systems.
  • Drive supplier selection, qualification, and onboarding processes for critical components, raw materials, and subassemblies—including refractory materials, metal fabrications, electrical hardware, and control systems.
  • Evaluate and manage supplier performance, lead time, capacity, risk, and quality metrics using structured tools and KPIs.
  • Collaborate with design engineering to ensure Design for Supply Chain (DfSC) and Design for Manufacturability (DfM) principles are integrated into product development.
  • Create and optimize Bill of Materials (BOMs), part specifications, and sourcing documentation in collaboration with the product engineering team.
  • Identify and resolve supply chain bottlenecks, capacity issues, and lead time constraints through data-driven analysis, simulation, and risk mitigation.
  • Support implementation of ERP/MRP systems for demand planning, inventory management, and procurement automation.
  • Assist in the implementation of ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards across the supply chain and contribute to compliance audits.
  • Manage supply chain sustainability initiatives, ensuring alignment with the company’s mission to support carbon-free, environmentally responsible operations.
  • Lead cost reduction, make-vs-buy analyses, and total cost of ownership (TCO) assessments for key components.
  • Engage in supply chain resilience planning, including dual sourcing, buffer stock optimization, and risk modeling for critical-path components.
  • Collaborate with logistics teams to ensure efficient global distribution of systems and subsystems with full traceability and real-time visibility.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Mechanical Engineering, Operations Research, or a closely related field is required.
  • Master’s degree or MBA with a focus on Operations, Sustainable Systems, or Supply Chain Strategy is preferred.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in supply chain engineering, manufacturing operations, or technical sourcing within the clean tech, energy, renewables, industrial equipment, or advanced manufacturing sectors.
  • Proven experience supporting hardware-based products with complex multi-tier BOMs, custom components, and long lead-time parts.
  • Strong command of supply chain planning tools and software, including:
    • SAP
    • Oracle SCM
    • NetSuite
    • Arena PLM
  • Experience with CAD/BOM integration and collaboration with mechanical/electrical design teams using tools like:
    • SolidWorks
    • AutoCAD
    • Siemens Teamcenter
  • Deep understanding of logistics, procurement, inventory optimization, and supplier quality management.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools, including Excel (VLOOKUP, pivot tables), SQL, or Python for advanced modeling and automation.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and compliance such as:
    • ISO 9001 (Quality Management)
    • ISO 14001 (Environmental Management)
    • RoHS, REACH, and ITAR (for regulated materials)
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, material specs, and manufacturing tolerances.
  • Excellent interpersonal, project management, and negotiation skills to drive strategic supplier relationships and operational excellence.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a start-up or high-growth clean energy company with hardware deployment at scale.
  • Familiarity with thermal systems, refractory materials, or electro-mechanical energy equipment.
