Typical Duties and Responsibilities

As a Senior Process Engineer, you will be a critical member of the operations and engineering teams, responsible for designing, optimizing, and implementing advanced manufacturing processes that drive efficiency, improve product quality, and support rapid scaling of renewable energy products.

Key duties include:

  • Lead process design, development, and optimization for production lines manufacturing solar modules, battery storage systems, and portable power solutions.
  • Analyze and improve existing manufacturing processes to enhance throughput, reduce cycle times, and lower production costs through lean manufacturing methodologies and Six Sigma techniques.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including Kaizen events, Value Stream Mapping (VSM), 5S implementation, and root cause analysis (RCA).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including product development, R&D, quality assurance, and supply chain—to ensure manufacturability and scalability of new products through Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Develop and maintain detailed process documentation, including standard operating procedures (SOPs), process flow diagrams (PFDs), and control plans.
  • Lead statistical process control (SPC) initiatives and deploy data-driven manufacturing practices for proactive defect prevention and yield improvement.
  • Conduct process simulations and modeling using advanced software tools to optimize energy product assembly and testing processes.
  • Recommend and implement automation and robotics solutions for high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and external partners to qualify materials, processes, and equipment for use in production.
  • Support the integration of Industry 4.0 technologies, including smart sensors, IoT-based monitoring, and predictive maintenance systems for advanced process control.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant ISO 9001, UL, RoHS, REACH, and CE standards throughout all engineering projects.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field is required.
  • Master’s degree or additional certifications in Sustainable Energy, Renewable Energy Engineering, or Industrial Engineering is a plus.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of hands-on experience in process engineering within the renewable energy, solar technology, battery manufacturing, or portable power industries.
  • Demonstrated expertise in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, Kaizen, and continuous improvement techniques for process optimization.
  • Deep knowledge of renewable energy products, including solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery systems, inverters, and home energy storage units.
  • Proficiency in advanced CAD and process simulation software, such as:
    • AutoCAD
    • SolidWorks
    • Siemens NX
    • MATLAB / Simulink
    • Minitab
    • Arena Simulation Software
    • FlexSim
  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle NetSuite, Epicor) for production process control and supply chain coordination.
  • Expertise in statistical process control (SPC), process capability analysis (Cp/Cpk), and design of experiments (DOE).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, especially in high-technology, precision manufacturing environments.
  • Hands-on experience with automated production equipment, robotics, and PLC-controlled systems.
  • Understanding of thermal management, power electronics, and energy conversion processes in power systems manufacturing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certification.
  • Working knowledge of UL 1741, IEC 62109, or other relevant renewable energy and battery safety standards.
  • Experience with solar module assembly lines, battery pack production, or microgrid control systems.
  • Familiarity with Industry 4.0 digital manufacturing technologies, such as:
    • Smart Factory Analytics
    • Industrial IoT (IIoT)
    • Cloud-Based Manufacturing Platforms
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, or VBA for process data analysis and workflow automation.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, startup-style environment with aggressive product launch timelines.
