Our client is a leading communications technology company specializing in advanced spectrum management, radio frequency monitoring, and communications intelligence solutions. With a proven track record serving civilian, government, and military agencies, this organization designs and manufactures state-of-the-art antennas, spectrum analyzers, and high-power radio broadcasting systems. Their mission is to provide innovative RF communications tools that support critical operations including radio direction finding (RDF), geolocation, electronic surveillance, and signal analysis. This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-paced, mission-driven environment at the forefront of RF engineering, network design, and communications infrastructure development.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
As a Senior Network Engineer, you will play a vital role in the design, implementation, and maintenance of secure and high-performance networks supporting mission-critical RF monitoring and analysis equipment. Responsibilities include:
- Design, configure, and deploy Layer 2 and Layer 3 network architectures for secure RF communications and signal processing environments
- Implement advanced routing and switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, VLANs, STP, VRRP)
- Integrate proprietary spectrum monitoring devices and remote RF sensors into centralized network infrastructure
- Collaborate with hardware engineers to support IP-based control systems for antenna arrays and direction-finding systems
- Ensure cybersecurity compliance with government standards such as FISMA, NIST 800-53, and DISA STIGs
- Maintain and monitor network firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion prevention systems (IPS)
- Use packet capture and diagnostic tools (e.g., Wireshark, SolarWinds, PRTG) to troubleshoot latency, interference, and RF transmission issues
- Document network topologies, configurations, and as-built documentation for secure facility and DoD client environments
- Work closely with IT Security and RF Engineering teams to support classified and unclassified data segregation (air-gapped networks, TACLANE integration, etc.)
- Provide Tier II and III support and serve as an escalation point for complex networking issues
- Participate in site surveys and deployments for remote communication infrastructure setups
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Network Engineering, Cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline
- Master’s degree preferred but not required
- Relevant military experience in communications (e.g., USAF Cyber Transport, Army Signal Corps, Navy IT) may be considered equivalent
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in enterprise or mission-critical network engineering
- In-depth understanding of TCP/IP, IPv4/IPv6, NAT, and subnetting
- Proficient in configuring Cisco or Juniper routers, switches, and firewalls
- Experience supporting or integrating with RF and spectrum analysis systems, antennas, or SDR (Software Defined Radio) platforms
- Comfortable working in secure environments, including SCIFs, and with knowledge of DoD networking protocols
- Strong experience with network security hardening practices
- Excellent documentation skills and experience with network diagramming tools such as Visio or Lucidchart
Familiarity with industry-standard tools and protocols:
-
- Cisco IOS / NX-OS, JunOS, Aruba, Palo Alto PAN-OS
