Typical Duties and Responsibilities

As an IC Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, testing, and implementing complex mixed-signal circuits to meet the demands of high-speed, low-power applications. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Circuit Design & Development:
    • Design and optimize mixed-signal circuits, including ADCs, DACs, RX/TX, PLLs, filters, bandgap bias circuits, regulators, and other analog components.
    • Utilize advanced low-power and high-speed design techniques to create scalable and efficient semiconductor solutions.
    • Work with deep sub-micron CMOS technologies to ensure performance and power efficiency.
  • Simulation & Validation:
    • Perform pre-silicon simulations using IC design CAD tools such as Spectre, Spice, Matlab, Hsim, and Verilog.
    • Conduct signal integrity, noise analysis, and reliability checks to ensure designs meet rigorous industry standards.
  • Prototyping & Testing:
    • Evaluate and validate prototype units in a lab environment, ensuring compliance with design specifications.
    • Use advanced test equipment and tools to troubleshoot and refine designs as necessary.
  • Documentation & Collaboration:
    • Develop detailed documentation of design methodologies, test results, and technical specifications.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including digital design engineers, layout engineers, and system architects.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Contribute to the continuous improvement of IC design processes, methodologies, and toolkits.
    • Stay updated with the latest trends in semiconductor design and propose innovative solutions.

Education

  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering with 8+ years of relevant experience, OR
  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with 5+ years of relevant experience.

Required Skills and Experience

Design Expertise:

  • Proven hands-on experience in designing mixed-signal circuits, including ADCs, DACs, RX/TX, PLLs, filters, bandgap bias circuits, and regulators.
  • Strong understanding of low-power and high-speed design techniques.

Technical Skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of deep sub-micron CMOS technologies.
  • Proficiency with IC design tools such as:
    • Spectre
    • Spice
    • Matlab
    • Hsim
    • Verilog
  • Strong understanding of analog and mixed-signal simulation and modeling techniques.

Lab Testing:

  • Proficiency in evaluating prototype units to meet design specifications using lab equipment like oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and other specialized test instruments.
  • Ability to debug and troubleshoot hardware and circuit issues.

Industry Standards:

  • Familiarity with semiconductor design standards and protocols.
  • Knowledge of process variation and design for manufacturing (DFM) principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AI, automotive, or cloud-based semiconductor architectures.
  • Familiarity with advanced packaging techniques and 3D IC integration.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis for yield improvement and reliability modeling.
  • Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Perl, or TCL) to automate design or test processes.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to document and share insights effectively.
