We are an engineering and design staffing agency recruiting an Electronics Engineer for a dynamic commercial aerospace company. Our client specializes in the design, development, and manufacturing of high-performance electronic systems for the aerospace industry.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Full Cycle Hardware Development: Design and develop electronics equipment such as Variable Frequency Motor Drives (VFMDs) for vacuum generators and air compressors (ACIM/BLDC), AC/DC Power Converters (3-Φ), 28V DC Valve Controllers, and W&W System Controllers.
- Design & Simulation Tools: Utilize design and simulation tools such as Altium, OrCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, PSIM, and PSPICE for circuit design and analysis.
- Test Equipment Proficiency: Operate programmable power supplies, high-speed digital oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other test equipment.
- Communication Protocols: Design and implement communication protocols including CAN, ARINC, SPI, and RS-232.
- Circuit Design Expertise: Develop DC-DC converters, active rectifiers, gate drives, voltage/current sensor circuits, and EMI filters.
- SPICE Analysis: Perform SPICE analysis of circuits using Altium/OrCAD PSPICE tools.
- Control Algorithms: Conduct analysis and MATLAB/Simulink modeling to generate control algorithms.
- Magnetics Design: Analyze and design magnetics for EMI filters, boost/buck inductors, and other input/output filters.
- Component Management: Select components and manage obsolescence.
- Schematic Capture: Perform circuit design and schematic capture using Altium/OrCAD tools.
- Documentation: Create hardware design documents covering design analysis, notes, and specific guidelines.
- PCB Layout Input: Provide inputs to PCB layout design.
- Load Analysis: Conduct worst-case load analysis (DC Load Analysis) on circuit designs.
- Thermal Analysis: Perform component derating and thermal analysis.
- Performance Margin Analysis: Conduct design performance margin analysis.
- PCB Board Bring-Up: Perform PCB board bring-up per circuit design.
- Functional Test Procedures: Create PCB board-level functional test procedures per circuit functional blocks.
- Design Verification: Develop design verification test procedures (DVTP) and perform electronics hardware testing to ensure requirements are met, generating test reports (DVTR).
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
Required Skills and Experience
- 5-10 years of hands-on experience in full cycle hardware development for electronics equipment in the commercial aerospace industry.
- Proficiency in design and simulation tools such as Altium, OrCAD, MATLAB/Simulink, PSIM, and PSPICE.
- Familiarity with test equipment including programmable power supplies, high-speed digital oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
- Expertise in communication protocols such as CAN, ARINC, SPI, and RS-232.
- Advanced knowledge of DC-DC converters, active rectifiers, gate drives, voltage/current sensor circuits, and EMI filter designs.
- Experience with SPICE analysis, control algorithm modeling, and magnetics design.
- Strong skills in component selection, obsolescence management, and schematic capture.
- Ability to create comprehensive hardware design documents and provide inputs to PCB layout design.
- Proficiency in worst-case load analysis, thermal analysis, and performance margin analysis.
- Experience in PCB board bring-up, functional test procedures, and design verification testing.
- Familiarity with aerospace regulations such as RTCA/DO-160 and RTCA/DO-254 guidelines.
