Next-Gen Aircraft Platform ( Contract )
Location: South Bay Area, CA (Onsite)
Employment Type: Contract | Production / Manufacturing Engineering
Comp: $65.00 – $80.00 / hour (DOE)
About the Company
Join a well-funded, stealth-mode aerospace venture developing revolutionary electric aircraft systems aimed at reshaping the future of personal mobility. Our team is comprised of leading engineers, program managers, and former test pilots from top aerospace organizations. We’re entering a critical phase of flight test expansion and seek driven engineering professionals who are eager to help validate and refine next-generation airborne platforms.
About the Role
We’re seeking an Advanced Tooling Design Engineer to optimize and expand our in-house manufacturing capabilities. You’ll own the end-to-end design of assembly fixtures, molds, and jigs—ensuring that every tool you create drives production efficiency, part quality, and repeatability. You’ll collaborate closely with product design, production, and quality teams to translate prototype concepts into streamlined manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and validate tooling solutions (assembly fixtures, molds, jigs, etc.) for part and full-aircraft assembly.
- Conduct tolerance analyses and apply GD&T best practices to ensure fit, form, and function.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate manufacturability into product designs and troubleshoot on-floor challenges.
- Define, document, and refine manufacturing processes, workflows, and SOPs to boost throughput and reduce waste.
- Lead cost-analysis and provide estimates for new tooling projects.
- Mentor junior engineers and technicians on tooling design principles and continuous-improvement techniques.
- Drive tooling-related projects from concept through delivery, maintaining schedule and budget alignment.
- Prepare and present technical documentation and progress updates to engineering leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Manufacturing, Mechanical, or related Engineering discipline (Master’s preferred).
- 5–7 years of hands-on manufacturing engineering experience, with a core focus on tooling design and process definition.
- Proficiency in CAD (Catia V5/V6 preferred) and strong command of Design for Manufacturability.
- Expert application of GD&T in creating and reviewing technical drawings.
- Deep understanding of machining, assembly methods, and quality-control practices.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proven project-management ability and organizational discipline
Bonus Qualifications
- Experience with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or other continuous-improvement frameworks.
- Background in aerospace or electrical mobility/propulsion manufacturing environments.
- Proven track record designing tooling for composite structures.
- Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in engineering.
