Summary:
We’re seeking a hands-on CNC Setup Machinist with experience setting up Swiss-type lathes and multi-tasking turning centers; mill set-up experience is a plus for this role since more support is needed on Swiss. This is an excellent opportunity to join a precision metal manufacturing leader where your skills directly impact productivity, part quality, and on-time delivery.
You will focus on setting up Tsugami Swiss lathes, Okuma multi-axis lathes, and other advanced turning centers for complex component runs. This is a critical role on our production floor supporting high-mix, low-to-mid volume manufacturing for gas handling and industrial heating components.
🛠 What You’ll Be Doing
- Set up Swiss-type CNC lathes (Tsugami with Fanuc controls) for high-precision component runs.
- Configure and dial-in Okuma multi-tasking lathes with OSP controls for complex turning/milling operations.
- Perform full machine setups including tooling selection, fixture installation, offsets, and first article inspections.
- Interpret and verify G-code programs at the control; make minor edits and adjustments as needed.
- Collaborate with CNC programmers and operators to ensure process stability and quality.
- Recommend and implement improvements to setups, tooling strategies, and cycle times.
- Assist with troubleshooting machine, tooling, or setup issues to minimize downtime.
- Maintain setup documentation and assist with basic operator training and handoff.
- 5+ years of CNC lathe setup experience, especially on Swiss and multi-tasking lathes.
- Proven ability to set up Tsugami, Okuma, or similar high-precision lathes.
- Comfortable reading and modifying G-code at the machine.
- Skilled with Fanuc and OSP control systems.
- Solid understanding of tool holders, live tooling, bar feeders, and chip management.
- Ability to read blueprints, use precision measurement tools, and inspect first articles.
- Experience working with tight tolerances in a high-mix environment.
