Title: Set-up Machinist (Swiss & Multi-tasking Lathes)

Location: Marion, NC

Industry: Precision Metal Manufacturing

Employment Type: Full-Time

Shift: Monday – Friday | 1st Shift (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM)

Compensation: $30-$38/hr.

Summary:

We’re seeking a hands-on CNC Setup Machinist with experience setting up Swiss-type lathes and multi-tasking turning centers; mill set-up experience is a plus for this role since more support is needed on Swiss. This is an excellent opportunity to join a precision metal manufacturing leader where your skills directly impact productivity, part quality, and on-time delivery.

You will focus on setting up Tsugami Swiss lathes, Okuma multi-axis lathes, and other advanced turning centers for complex component runs. This is a critical role on our production floor supporting high-mix, low-to-mid volume manufacturing for gas handling and industrial heating components.

🛠 What You’ll Be Doing

  • Set up Swiss-type CNC lathes (Tsugami with Fanuc controls) for high-precision component runs.
  • Configure and dial-in Okuma multi-tasking lathes with OSP controls for complex turning/milling operations.
  • Perform full machine setups including tooling selection, fixture installation, offsets, and first article inspections.
  • Interpret and verify G-code programs at the control; make minor edits and adjustments as needed.
  • Collaborate with CNC programmers and operators to ensure process stability and quality.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to setups, tooling strategies, and cycle times.
  • Assist with troubleshooting machine, tooling, or setup issues to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain setup documentation and assist with basic operator training and handoff.
What You Bring
  • 5+ years of CNC lathe setup experience, especially on Swiss and multi-tasking lathes.
  • Proven ability to set up Tsugami, Okuma, or similar high-precision lathes.
  • Comfortable reading and modifying G-code at the machine.
  • Skilled with Fanuc and OSP control systems.
  • Solid understanding of tool holders, live tooling, bar feeders, and chip management.
  • Ability to read blueprints, use precision measurement tools, and inspect first articles.
  • Experience working with tight tolerances in a high-mix environment.
  • Great communicator with strong attention to detail and teamwork.
Benefits
  • 401(k) with employer match
  • Medical, Dental, Vision insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Health Savings Account (HSA)
