Overview
Our client is a global provider of advanced industrial water and process technology solutions, supporting some of the world’s most complex manufacturing, energy, and resource-intensive operations. The organization specializes in thermal separation for high-purity process systems, delivering engineered solutions that integrate into large-scale industrial facilities worldwide.
This team operates at the intersection of process engineering, sustainability, and industrial execution, solving problems that conventional water treatment technologies cannot.
Position Summary
The Senior Applications Engineer (Chemical) plays a critical front-end technical role, leading the development of evaporation- and crystallization-based process solutions for complex industrial streams. This position works closely with sales, customers, and internal engineering teams to translate process requirements into technically sound, commercially viable proposals.
This is a pre-award / applications-focused engineering role, emphasizing conceptual process design, technical proposal development, and client interaction, with downstream handoff to detailed engineering and execution teams after project award.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage directly with customers to understand process requirements, operating constraints, and performance objectives
- Develop conceptual process designs incorporating evaporation and crystallization technologies
- Prepare heat and material balances, process flow diagrams (PFDs), and high-level system configurations
- Author clear, technically accurate proposal documentation defining process performance, scope, and assumptions
- Support development of equipment scope and cost estimates for proposed solutions
- Participate in customer meetings alongside sales as the technical subject-matter expert
- Provide technical input for pilot testing and process validation programs
- Collaborate with internal engineering teams during project handoff, execution, procurement, and startup support
- Review and provide technical guidance on process designs and estimates produced by other engineers
- Serve as a technical mentor and leader within the applications engineering team
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering
- 5+ years of experience working with evaporation and/or crystallization technologies
Strong understanding of:
- Thermal separation processes
- High-TDS brines and industrial wastewater
- Scaling, solubility, and phase-change behavior
- Experience developing process-level designs and technical proposals
- Comfortable in customer-facing technical discussions
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, pre-award engineering environment
Background in:
- Industrial water treatment
- Chemical or process EPCs
- OEM process equipment suppliers
- Experience with ZLD systems, brine concentration, or thermal wastewater treatment
- Familiarity reviewing or influencing P&IDs (not necessarily drafting IFC drawings)
- Exposure to pilot testing or process validation programs
