Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to lead the design and delivery of public works across Southern California. The Senior Engineer will serve as a technical lead, project manager, and mentor for junior staff while ensuring project deliverables meet quality, schedule, and budget expectations. This is a hands-on role for a licensed engineer ready to play a major part in municipal infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and prepare detailed plans, specifications, and estimates for grading, street improvements, drainage, sewer, and utility infrastructure projects using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
- Lead project planning, design coordination, quality control, and client communication from concept through construction support.
- Manage and deliver projects for public agencies and municipalities, including roadway rehabilitation and widenings, sewer and water design, and stormwater management.
- Perform and review engineering calculations, technical reports, and hydrology/hydraulics studies.
- Coordinate with agencies for plan check, permitting, and project approvals.
- Mentor and support junior engineers, drafters, and designers.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, and resource allocations.
- Serve as a key client liaison and contribute to proposals, scopes of work, and business development efforts.
Qualifications, Experience, & Skills:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
Licensure:
- Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license from any U.S. state (California P.E. preferred or ability to obtain CA license within 12 months)
Experience:
- Minimum 7 years of professional civil engineering design experience
- Proven experience designing and delivering public works or municipal infrastructure projects
- Strong proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D for civil infrastructure design
Preferred Technical Skills:
- Solid understanding of grading, drainage, street design, and utility planning
- Working knowledge of HEC-RAS, StormCAD, or similar hydrology/hydraulic modeling tools is a plus
- Familiarity with Southern California municipal design standards and permitting processes
Other ‘Pluses’:
- Experience leading design teams and mentoring staff
- Experience working with Orange County, Los Angeles County, and other Southern California agencies
- Experience preparing proposals and participating in business development
