Planning/Inventory management

Daily review of new sales orders, releasing of new work orders to the floor, reviewing planned order requirements for purchasing, monitoring usage and economical purchasing quantities based on recent history and potential upcoming orders, checking stock quantities for replenishment, monitoring long lead items for purchase (castings, extrusions, electrical components, cylinders etc’) Firming up planned orders for purchasing. Checking Inventory for machined components that are commonly used (End Finishers, Benders) to cut down lead times of new orders.

Supervision of shop floor and assembly

Check daily workload of machine shop ensuring employees have sufficient work at each load center and that the work in process is coordinated with the Sales Orders schedule. Check assembly has sufficient components to complete machines in process and following up of any shortages from machine shop or purchasing.

Supervision of Shipping/Receiving

Daily check of shipments based on Sales Order schedule. Coordinating with shipping the crating and trucking requirements for machines in process. Daily review of components received on open PO’s.

Outside Processing

Working with vendors existing and new for all outside processing (varying heat treat processes, plating, powder coating, honing, grinding, metal coating. Gun drilling etc’) ensuring all treatments are Mil spec compliant to the blueprint. Coordinating lot sizes for outside processing to utilize economical lot charge/weight ratio

Inspection

Checking of components from machine shop prior to going to stock, components coming in from outside processing, purchased items requiring inspection (heaters, mandrels. Castings. Springs etc’) checking certification. Inspecting machined components on the CMM (coordinate measuring machine). Yearly update and calibration of all inspection tooling and employee tooling as per ISO compliance.

Record Keeping

Storing all outside process orders and certifications, material certs, calibration records which gives us traceability of PO’s of materials linked to certs and work orders and dates completed which is required for DCMA inspections and ISO compliance.

General Housekeeping

Keeping check of shop floor for any possible violations (blockage of electrical outlets, storage of hazardous waste, making sure hazardous waste is labelled and dated and disposed of in a timely manner, oil spills etc’

Labor Tickets

Weekly input of all labor tickets and review if time has been correctly charged on work orders. Monthly review of all work orders to be closed at month end to ensure all materials have been issued.

Other Activities

Working with Engineering on new components (when needed) quoting cost and lead times and creating routings as necessary.

Setting up Monthly Safety Meetings, selecting employees to attend, taking minutes of items to be addressed and dates to be completed. Issuing minutes to employees attended and posting on Bulletin board.
