Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Mastercam Programmer/Set-up Machinist to lead our CNC Department as the sole programmer and senior-most machinist; in other words, our client is seeking a hands-on CNC Department Supervisor or Lead who is willing to embed with their team for the long-term. This role combines hands-on multi-axis programming and machine set-up with leadership responsibility, managing day-to-day production and mentoring a team of machinists. The right candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment producing complex, tight-tolerance parts for regulated industries such as aerospace, defense, medical, and high-tech manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- Program and prove out 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis CNC mills (true simultaneous 5-axis experience required; Haas UMC series or equivalent).
- Lead and oversee daily machining operations to maintain efficiency, throughput, and quality.
- Set up machines, fixtures, and tooling for high-precision prototype and production runs.
- Develop, document, and refine machining processes and standard work instructions.
- Utilize precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, height gages, indicators, etc.) to ensure parts meet engineering specifications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve machining challenges, adjusting programs, tooling, or setups as needed.
- Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams to support new product introductions and continuous improvements.
- Train and mentor machinists on machining best practices, tooling strategies, and safety protocols.
- Monitor tooling and material inventory, coordinating with purchasing/warehouse as required.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards across all machining activities.
Qualifications
- Mastercam proficiency is mandatory — including advanced 5-axis toolpaths (simultaneous and 3+2).
- 5–10+ years of CNC programming and machining experience with complex parts.
- Strong knowledge of machining theory, cutting parameters, feeds/speeds, and workholding.
- Hands-on setup experience on CNC mills and lathes.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, CAD models, and GD&T.
- Proven leadership ability with experience supervising or mentoring machinists.
- Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Aerospace, defense, or other regulated industry experience strongly preferred.
- Must be a U.S. Person (due to ITAR requirements).
Benefits
- Employer-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance.
- 401(k) plan with employer participation.
- Paid time off and holidays.
- Opportunities for career advancement and professional development.
