Land Surveyor

Summary:

Seeking a Land Surveyor to provide professional surveying services supporting the design and construction of sanitation and health facilities. The role involves reviewing project proposals, conducting surveys, performing CAD drafting, and supporting boundary research efforts.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform technical tasks including land and construction surveying, CAD drafting, and property boundary research.
• Maintain project records from conception to completion.
• Draft construction plans and identify potential issues with proposed designs.
• Conduct surveys in remote locations, sometimes requiring extended travel.
• Analyze and establish survey control networks and datum.
• Create legal property boundary descriptions and easement documentation.
• Prepare construction plans and as-built drawings using AutoCAD and related software.
• Coordinate surveying activities with other project teams and local officials.
• Perform computations and draft revisions necessary for survey and construction plans.
• Contribute to field and office problem-solving and apply specialty surveying and CAD techniques.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Understanding of geomatics and plan set structure.
• Proficiency with surveying equipment, calibration, and maintenance.
• Strong skills in surveying mathematics (linear, angular, elevations, unit conversions).
• Familiarity with construction staking procedures and land status assessments.
• Skilled in technical CAD drafting (AutoCAD proficiency required).
• Ability to interpret engineering plans across civil and surveying disciplines.
• Competence with MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to incorporate survey data and field notes into CAD drawings.
• Experience with creating surfaces from TIN models for base maps.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to maintain strong working relationships with field staff and community representatives.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Geomatics or related field.
• Equivalent related work experience, education, or training may substitute for degree on a year-for-year basis.

Experience Breakdown:

• Level I: 2 years of land surveying experience.
• Level II: 4 years of land surveying experience.
• Level III: 8 years of combined education and surveying experience, plus 2 years of supervisory experience.

Preferred Certifications:

• Level I: No certification required.
• Level II: Completion of the NCEES Fundamentals of Land Surveying (FLS) exam or 6 years progressively responsible experience.
• Level III: Registration as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) required. (Candidates licensed in other states must obtain Alaska registration within 6 months of hire.)

Additional Requirements:

• Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• May require additional certifications (e.g., CFedS, drone pilot license) depending on project needs.

Additional Information

• Extended travel to remote locations may be required for survey projects.
• Work will involve both office and field assignments.
