Title: CNC Programmer (Mastercam)
Location: Norfolk, Virginia (East Coast)
Type: Direct Hire
Shift: 1 st , M-F
Industry/Sector: Industrial/Defense/Commercial Fluid Handling Components
We are partnered with a U.S.-based industrial manufacturer operating a dedicated marine and naval manufacturing division supporting shipboard, offshore, and defense-related fluid-handling systems. This East Coast facility machines precision, pressure-rated components used in demanding marine and naval environments where reliability, repeatability, and material integrity are critical.
The operation supports both production and engineered-to-order work, with a strong emphasis on quality, documentation, and repeatable machining processes. Programming is performed in Mastercam, and the role is closely tied to shop-floor execution.
Position Overview
Our client is seeking a hands-on CNC Programmer to support CNC milling and turning operations for their marine and naval product lines. This role focuses on Mastercam programming, production support, and continuous improvement of machining processes used for components installed in shipboard and marine service environments.
This is not a remote or desk-only role. The programmer will work directly with machinists, manufacturing, and quality teams to support setups, prove-outs, first articles, and production troubleshooting.
Core Responsibilities
- Program and optimize CNC programs using Mastercam for both turning and milling equipment used in the production of valve products
- Perform post-processing, prove-outs, and program revisions as needed
- Make machine-level G-code edits to support production and resolve machining issues
- Work hands-on with machinists during setups, first articles, and production runs
- Optimize tooling, fixturing, feeds, speeds, and cutting strategies for repeatable production
- Support machining of corrosion-resistant and marine-grade materials
- Reduce cycle times and improve tool life while maintaining strict dimensional and surface finish requirements
- Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T
- Support new part introduction (NPI), engineering changes, and repeat production jobs
- Partner with Quality to support first-article inspections, in-process checks, and corrective actions
- Maintain organized Mastercam program files and revision control
Required Experience
- 5+ years of CNC programming experience in a production manufacturing environment
- Strong proficiency with Mastercam (Mill and/or Lathe)
- Experience supporting both milling and turning operations
- Comfortable editing and troubleshooting programs directly at the machine
- Strong understanding of cutting tools, inserts, workholding, and fixturing
- Ability to read and interpret detailed blueprints and GD&T
- Hands-on experience working with machinists on the shop floor
