Job Summary: The role of a CNC Lead Machinist is to work in conjunction with the CNC Supervisor/Manager to manage workloads and machining priorities of the CNC department. This position will provide supporting day-to-day leadership of personnel and problem-solving techniques to ensure project timelines and department goals are satisfied. This position will also be a contributing machinist of the department, using proficient machining techniques and processes to produce high precision parts. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Perform essential functions of Lead position:
- Coordinate daily production needs with supervisor/manager and assist in establishing machining priorities
- Identify and communicate production challenges or successes and workload status
- Use good judgement to make sound and reasonable decisions related to machining and production, quality, and cost control
- Train and mentor new and current employees on department operations and procedures; ensure proper and complete knowledge of training
- Collaborate with project managers to calculate time and material costs for quoting purposes
- Collaborate with vendor representatives to maintain tools, equipment and supplies as required
- Research and recommend purchase of tools, equipment, and supplies as required
- Serve as backup to department supervisor/manger as necessary
- Other duties as assigned
Perform essential functions of Machinist I-III:
- Perform intermediate to complex machining and programming activities in line with company capabilities
- Provide advice or solutions in technical areas for less experienced machinists
- Modify existing programs to enhance efficiency
- Design custom fixtures for work holding as needed
- Determine acceptable surface finishes
- Program and setup multiple machines to perform multi axis (3+1 and/or 3+2 indexing) machining
- Apply lathe concepts to machine parts more efficiently
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and increased efficiencies for machining and tooling selection through research and development
- Perform essential functions of Machinist I-III
- TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES:
- Proficient knowledge of 2D and 3D programming and multi axis (3+1 and/or 3+2 indexing) machining
- Advanced knowledge of Lathe concepts including live tooling and dual spindle operations
- Proficient knowledge of complex fixturing techniques
- Proficient knowledge of print reading, high tolerance machining and geometric dimensioning
- Proficient knowledge of shop mechanics, mathematics, and measurement
- Proficient knowledge of material properties
- Proficient knowledge of commonly used hand and power tools
- Advanced computer literacy, including Fusion 360 or related CAM software
- Proficient knowledge of relationship management skills and conflict resolution
