Position Summary

The 5-Axis CNC Set-Up Machinist will be responsible for performing precise machine set-ups, proving out pre-developed programs, and running production parts to print on advanced 5-axis vertical machining centers. Programs are provided and fully verified by engineering; your role focuses on fixture installation, work offsets, tooling setup, part verification, and efficient operation in a high-mix/low-volume aerospace environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up 5-axis CNC machines (Matsuura MX-330 PC10 pallet system, Doosan DNM 350/5AX and 200/5AX).
  • Install and verify fixtures, workholding, and tooling for each operation.
  • Load, probe, and verify programs provided by the programming team (no editing required).
  • Perform part inspection using standard metrology tools (calipers, micrometers, indicators, height gauges).
  • Maintain proper documentation of setups, in-process checks, and part traceability under AS9100D quality procedures.
  • Collaborate with engineering, programming, and quality teams to resolve issues related to tooling or fixturing.
  • Monitor machine operation, make minor tool wear adjustments, and ensure efficient run time.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all company safety protocols.

Qualifications

7-15 years minimum of CNC set-up experience (5-axis preferred).

Familiarity with Matsuura, Doosan, or similar high-precision machining centers.

  • Strong understanding of G-code operations, work offsets, tool lengths, and probing systems (Renishaw preferred).
  • Ability to read and interpret aerospace blueprints and GD&T.
  • Experience with aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and aerospace alloys.
  • Comfort working in an AS9100D / ISO 9001:2015 certified production environment.
  • Basic PC skills for interacting with digital travelers, setup sheets, and inspection logs.
