We are a national engineering and technical staffing agency specializing in recruiting Low Voltage Designers for companies that serve data center and tech infrastructure industries.
Our client is a leading electrical contractor and technology systems integrator specializing in low voltage infrastructure solutions for data centers, enterprise campuses, corporate headquarters, hospitals, government buildings, and large-scale commercial facilities. Their expertise spans structured cabling, audiovisual solutions, access control and security systems, IP surveillance, network distribution, Wi-Fi infrastructure, fiber optic routing, and smart building automation technologies.
This organization partners closely with general contractors, engineers, facility managers, and IT leadership to design and implement high-performance, code-compliant, scalable low voltage systems that support mission-critical operations, high-bandwidth data environments, and modern intelligent building ecosystems. Their work emphasizes TIA/EIA telecommunications standards, BICSI best practices, NFPA/NEC electrical safety requirements, and emerging IoT building integration frameworks.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop detailed low voltage system designs including structured cabling layouts, cable pathways, riser diagrams, rack elevations, equipment room layouts, device locations, and labeling schemes.
- Design and document CAT6/CAT6A/CAT8 copper cabling, multimode and single-mode fiber optic distribution, wireless access point coverage, and telecommunications room infrastructure.
- Produce security and audiovisual (A/V) system layouts including CCTV camera placement, access control door hardware, paging/intercom, conference room AV integration, digital signage, and control systems wiring.
- Create and maintain construction drawings, shop drawings, as-built drawings, submittal packages, and project documentation in AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM coordination platforms.
- Work directly with project managers, estimators, field supervisors, and installation technicians to ensure design intent is understood and executed accurately.
- Conduct site assessments and field verification to evaluate existing cable routes, equipment rooms, conduits, and hardware placement.
- Ensure all designs align with:
- TIA/EIA telecommunications infrastructure standards
- BICSI best practices
- NEC (NFPA 70) and applicable local electrical codes
- OSHA safety and installation requirements
- Support BIM coordination meetings to integrate low voltage systems with mechanical, electrical, structural, and architectural layouts.
- Prepare material takeoffs (MTOs), equipment schedules, and installation specifications for purchasing and subcontract coordination.
- Participate in commissioning activities, system testing and documentation turnover to ensure compliance and operational readiness.
- Assist with RFI responses, technical clarifications, and ongoing design modifications during construction phase lifecycle.
Education
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Telecommunications Engineering, Drafting & Design, Computer Networking, or related field.
