Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform functional, performance, and compliance testing of high-speed electronic assemblies, PCBs, and integrated systems in accordance with established test protocols.
  • Set up and operate automated test equipment (ATE), oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, function generators, power meters, and logic analyzers.
  • Conduct signal integrity, continuity, and timing tests to verify the performance of USB, HDMI, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt, and PCIe interfaces.
  • Support RF, analog, and digital circuit validation, including impedance measurement, eye diagram analysis, and jitter tolerance testing.
  • Build, modify, and troubleshoot test fixtures, harnesses, and prototype circuits for product validation and reliability testing.
  • Interpret schematics, PCB layouts, and wiring diagrams to identify test points and debug complex electronic circuits.
  • Execute automated test scripts using LabVIEW, Python, or TestStand, and assist in test automation development when required.
  • Document test results in accordance with ISO 9001 and IEC compliance standards, generating detailed reports for engineering review.
  • Collaborate with design engineers, firmware developers, and quality teams to ensure test accuracy, repeatability, and traceability.
  • Maintain calibration logs and ensure test instrumentation complies with ANSI/NCSL Z540.3 and ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory standards.
  • Support Failure Analysis (FA) and Root Cause Investigation (RCI) on failed devices, providing technical data and recommendations.
  • Participate in engineering design reviews, offering feedback from a testing and validation perspective.

Education

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related discipline.
  • Relevant certifications such as IPC-7711/7721 (Rework & Repair), IPC-A-610 (Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies), or CompTIA Electronics Technician (CET) certification are advantageous.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in electronics testing, validation, or failure analysis within the consumer electronics, communications, or semiconductor industries.
  • Strong understanding of high-speed serial bus technologies such as USB 3.x/4, HDMI, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt, and PCI Express.
  • Proficiency with test equipment including digital oscilloscopes (Tektronix, Keysight, or Rohde & Schwarz), signal generators, spectrum/network analyzers, DMMs, and LCR meters.
  • Demonstrated experience with automated test environments (ATE) and scripting languages such as LabVIEW, TestStand, Python, or MATLAB.
  • Ability to analyze waveforms, interpret eye diagrams, and identify signal degradation or EMI/EMC issues.
  • Solid grasp of analog and digital electronics, microcontroller-based circuits, and power regulation systems.
  • Knowledge of IPC, ISO, IEC, and JEDEC standards applicable to electronic test and validation environments.
  • Experience in ESD-safe environments, including component handling, grounding, and static protection procedures.
  • Competent in soldering and rework of through-hole and SMT components under microscope using hot-air or reflow equipment.
  • Excellent data documentation, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, assembly drawings, BOMs, and datasheets.
  • Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC), Design of Experiments (DOE), and Six Sigma methodologies a plus.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with hardware validation or compliance testing labs for consumer electronics, IoT devices, or embedded systems.
  • Exposure to automated test systems (ATS) used in production line validation and regression testing.
  • Knowledge of EMC/EMI testing, thermal cycling, and environmental stress screening (ESS) procedures.
  • Familiarity with CAD and EDA tools such as Altium Designer, OrCAD, or Mentor Graphics for reviewing PCB layouts.
  • Hands-on experience with firmware flashing, debugging interfaces (JTAG, UART, SPI, I²C), and hardware bring-up procedures.
  • Understanding of ISO 26262, IEC 60601, and FCC Part 15 standards for consumer and medical electronics (a plus).
  • Experience working in cross-functional engineering teams under Agile development frameworks.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working with R&D engineers, test automation teams, and product managers in fast-paced environments.
