We are a design and engineering staffing agency specialized in the recruitment of Electrical Designer and Drafters for companies that fall into the renewable energy and power distribution industries.

Our client is a leading engineering and construction services provider specializing in renewable energy systems, power distribution infrastructure, and commercial electrical projects. They deliver comprehensive design-build, construction engineering, and project management services to a wide range of industries including industrial manufacturing, healthcare, government, and faith-based organizations. Their multidisciplinary team is committed to advancing energy efficiency, sustainability, and modern electrical infrastructure through the use of cutting-edge design tools, CAD technologies, and industry-standard modeling software.

This company’s projects span medium-voltage distribution networks, solar PV systems, backup power and UPS installations, and complex facility electrical retrofits, providing an environment where technical creativity meets practical execution.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create detailed electrical design drawings, schematics, and one-line diagrams for commercial, industrial, and renewable energy projects.
  • Develop power distribution layouts, lighting plans, grounding systems, conduit schedules, and panel schedules using AutoCAD Electrical, Revit, and ETAP.
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers, project managers, and construction teams to ensure accurate interpretation of design intent and field conditions.
  • Prepare load calculations, voltage drop studies, and short circuit analysis to meet NEC (National Electrical Code) and NFPA requirements.
  • Design and document photovoltaic (PV) systems, battery storage configurations, and interconnection diagrams for renewable energy installations.
  • Support BIM (Building Information Modeling) coordination with other trades (mechanical, plumbing, structural) to ensure clash-free, constructible designs.
  • Generate as-built drawings, maintain drawing revision logs, and manage document control for electrical design packages.
  • Conduct site walks, equipment takeoffs, and red-line markups to support ongoing field installations.
  • Assist with permit submittal packages, including load summaries, panel schedules, and interconnection documentation.
  • Ensure all designs comply with UL, IEEE, IEC, and OSHA standards, as well as applicable local building and energy codes.

Education

  • Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Drafting & Design Technology, or related field.
  • Additional certifications such as AutoCAD Electrical Certified Professional, Revit MEP Certification, or BIM Coordination Training are highly desirable.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in electrical design, drafting, or CAD modeling within the renewable energy, commercial construction, or power distribution industries.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical, Revit MEP, Bluebeam, and ETAP (or similar power system analysis tools).
  • In-depth understanding of electrical single-line diagrams, panel schedules, conduit routing, and grounding systems.
  • Hands-on experience with medium- and low-voltage power systems (120V–480V, 4.16kV–13.8kV).
  • Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, NEMA, and ANSI standards for electrical design and safety compliance.
  • Strong familiarity with photovoltaic (solar) systems, microgrids, energy storage systems, and interconnection requirements for utility-scale or distributed energy resources.
  • Excellent technical drawing, detail orientation, and revision tracking skills.
  • Proven ability to work with engineering teams, field technicians, and project managers in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interpret engineering specifications, construction documents, and submittal requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing solar PV arrays, battery energy storage systems (BESS), or EV charging infrastructure.
  • Exposure to substation design, switchgear, MCC (Motor Control Center) layouts, or protective relaying.
  • Familiarity with SKM Power Tools, EasyPower, or Homer Pro for load flow and fault current analysis.
  • Knowledge of lighting design software (AGi32 or Visual Lighting) and energy modeling tools for sustainable design optimization.
  • Experience producing construction documents (CD sets) and coordinating with AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction).
  • Understanding of LEED, Title 24, and energy code compliance documentation.
  • Prior experience in EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) environments or working with design-build contractors.
