Typical Duties and Responsibilities

As an Aviation Technician, you will perform critical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities on airframes, engines, and avionics systems under FAA and DoD regulatory guidelines.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inspections, and repairs on business jets, turboprops, and defense aircraft in accordance with FAA Part 145 repair station standards.
  • Troubleshoot and service hydraulic, pneumatic, fuel, environmental control, flight control, and landing gear systems.
  • Conduct detailed borescope inspections, corrosion control, and non-destructive testing (NDT) per NAS 410, ASTM, and SAE standards.
  • Remove, replace, and reassemble aircraft engines, avionics modules, wiring harnesses, and mechanical assemblies using OEM manuals and engineering drawings.
  • Test, calibrate, and certify avionics systems, including navigation, communication, autopilot, radar, and flight instrumentation systems.
  • Use advanced diagnostic tools such as Honeywell, Garmin, Rockwell Collins, and Bendix/King test equipment for system validation.
  • Perform sheet metal fabrication, composite repair, and structural rework following BAC 5000, NAVAIR, and SAE AMS specifications.
  • Work from blueprints, maintenance manuals, wiring diagrams, and Illustrated Parts Catalogs (IPC) to ensure technical accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintain strict adherence to FAA Airworthiness Directives (ADs), EASA Part 145, and DoD/ITAR export control requirements.
  • Record all maintenance actions in compliance with FAA 8130-3, OEM Service Bulletins, and company Quality Assurance (QA) protocols.
  • Collaborate with Quality Inspectors, Engineers, and Maintenance Planners to verify part integrity, proper configuration, and airworthiness.
  • Participate in safety audits, tool calibration programs, and continuous improvement (AS9100C/Lean Six Sigma) initiatives.
  • Utilize maintenance tracking software (CAMP, Corridor, Flightdocs, Ramco, Quantum, or Traxxall) for work orders, parts control, and inspection sign-offs.
  • Support engine runs, taxi tests, and ground checks to validate system performance and aircraft readiness.

Education

  • Associate’s degree in Aviation Maintenance Technology, Aerospace Engineering, or related field required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering or Aviation Science preferred.
  • Completion of an FAA-approved Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) certification program required.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience as an Aviation Technician, Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT), or MRO specialist in business aviation or defense aviation environments.
  • FAA Airframe & Powerplant (A&P) License or EASA Part 66 certification required.
  • In-depth knowledge of aircraft systems: airframe, powerplant, hydraulics, pneumatics, environmental, avionics, and electrical systems.
  • Proven experience with avionics integration, troubleshooting, and calibration using ARINC 429/629, MIL-STD-1553, and CAN Aerospace communication protocols.
  • Proficiency with OEM maintenance manuals, Illustrated Parts Catalogs (IPC), and Aircraft Maintenance Programs (AMP).
  • Knowledge of MRO standards and quality frameworks:
    • AS9100D / AS9110C (Aerospace Quality Management Systems)
    • ISO 9001:2015
    • NADCAP (National Aerospace & Defense Contractors Accreditation Program)
  • Experience using digital maintenance software tools such as CAMP, Corridor, Quantum, Ramco, and AMOS.
  • Familiarity with Lean / Six Sigma methodologies for process improvement and workflow efficiency.
  • Skilled in precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, borescopes, laser alignment systems).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks for interpreting engineering documentation and design modifications.
  • Understanding of safety management systems (SMS) and OSHA / ISO 45001 compliance in aviation maintenance environments.
  • Strong teamwork, time management, and communication skills for coordinating across engineering, logistics, and flight operations departments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with Gulfstream, Bombardier, Dassault Falcon, Embraer, or Cessna Citation business jet platforms.
  • Experience working in Department of Defense (DoD) or military MRO programs supporting ISR, transport, or rotary-wing aircraft.
  • Familiarity with engine MRO procedures for Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce, GE, and Honeywell powerplants.
  • Experience with avionics modernization, ADS-B upgrades, and digital cockpit retrofits.
  • Knowledge of composite repair standards (AC 43.13-1B, SAE AIR1374) and bonded structure restoration techniques.
  • Certifications such as:
    • IA (Inspection Authorization)
    • NDT Level II or III
    • OSHA 30 / FAA SMS Certification
    • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt
  • Active Secret or DoD Security Clearance highly desirable for defense-related programs.
