Machinist III
Manual & CNC Coiler Machines
Direct Hire (Full-time, W-2 w/ Benefits)
Comp: $62,400 – $83,000 + annual bonus + relocation (sign-on) bonus 
Shift: 1st Shift (6am-2:30pm)
Location: East Los Angeles /Montebello

Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Spring Coiler Set-Up/Operator Machinist III for a leading components manufacturer in the aerospace, automotive, aerospace, and industrial equipment sectors. This position involves setting up and operating mechanical and CNC coiling and wire forming machines to produce various types of springs. The ideal candidate will have experience in machine operation and setup, with a strong understanding of blueprints and precision measuring devices.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Operate industrial coiling machines to manufacture commercial wire coils from tubes of various diameters and wall thickness.
  • Perform setup, operation, changeover, troubleshooting, and preventative maintenance for machinery.
  • Conduct safety audits of equipment at the beginning of each shift and record results.
  • Review blueprints to determine setup procedures, machine attachments required, and stock to use.
  • Select and install machine attachments, such as taper cams, wire size blocks, coiling points, pitch tools, and cutting tools.
  • Verify wire diameter and thread the wire through drive rollers and machine guides.
  • Use a variety of hand tools such as ratchets, wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, and hammers.
  • Set cams, turnbuckles, and pitch tools to control spring dimensions.
  • Make trial runs, including stress relief, and measure sample products for conformance to specifications.
  • Adjust the machine to attain specified tolerances and recommend blueprint changes to resolve production problems if necessary.

Preferred Experience
(Also refer to 'Minimum Experience' below)

  • 3 – 5 years of coiling and/or equivalent machine operation and setup are a plus
  • Experience with cold winding, hot winding, mandrels etc. is a plus
  • Mill/Lathe (Manual/CNC) machining experience is a plus if you have Coiler Machine Set-up experience (Torrington & Herdon Coiler Machines)

Absolute Minimum Experience:

  • 3 to10 years of Manual Lathe/Mill Set-up experience
  • Manual AND CNC experience even better

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read and interpret part specifications or blueprints.
  • Basic math skills and detail-oriented.
  • Good verbal and communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Mechanically inclined.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for 4-6 hours straight per day
