We are a national engineering and technical staffing agency specializing in recruiting Sheet Metal Workers for commercial, industrial, and mission‑critical construction environments. Our client is a leading mechanical contractor supporting Savannah’s rapidly expanding port facilities, aerospace manufacturing, logistics hubs, hospitals, universities, and large‑scale commercial developments.
Their field and shop teams fabricate, assemble, and install sheet metal components including ductwork, fittings, plenums, curbs, supports, and architectural metal systems. With Savannah’s booming industrial and commercial growth, this role is essential to delivering high‑quality mechanical installations that meet project specifications, airflow requirements, and safety standards.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Fabricate, assemble, and install sheet metal ductwork including rectangular, round, and spiral systems.
- Measure, cut, bend, and shape sheet metal using hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment.
- Install hangers, supports, dampers, diffusers, grilles, and air distribution components.
- Read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and duct layout diagrams.
- Operate fabrication equipment including brakes, shears, plasma cutters, and roll formers.
- Install rooftop curbs, equipment stands, flashings, and architectural sheet metal components.
- Fit and install duct transitions, offsets, takeoffs, and custom fittings.
- Seal ductwork using approved methods including mastic, tape, and gasket systems.
- Coordinate with HVAC installers, pipefitters, electricians, and general contractors.
- Ensure proper airflow clearances, duct routing, and mechanical code compliance.
- Perform field measurements and verify dimensions for fabrication accuracy.
- Assist with rigging, hoisting, and setting large duct sections or mechanical components.
- Maintain clean and safe work areas, following all OSHA and company safety protocols.
- Document work performed, materials used, and jobsite conditions as required.
- Train and mentor apprentices or junior sheet metal workers as needed.
Education
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of a sheet metal apprenticeship program or trade school preferred.
Required Skills and Experience
- 3–7+ years of experience in sheet metal fabrication and installation.
- Strong understanding of ductwork systems, airflow principles, and mechanical components.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, and duct layouts.
- Proficiency with sheet metal tools including snips, brakes, shears, drills, and riveters.
- Experience installing commercial ductwork, supports, and air distribution components.
- Ability to perform accurate measurements, layout, and fabrication tasks.
- Strong knowledge of IMC, SMACNA standards, and Georgia mechanical codes.
- Ability to lift heavy materials, work on ladders, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem‑solving skills.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with architectural sheet metal, flashing, and exterior metal systems.
- Background in industrial facilities, port operations, aerospace, or manufacturing environments.
- Familiarity with spiral duct systems, welded duct, or specialty metals (stainless, aluminum).
- Certifications such as OSHA 10/30, SMACNA training, or trade licenses.
- Experience with BIM coordination, field layout tools, or digital plan review.
