Their maintenance teams perform electrical troubleshooting, repairs, preventive maintenance, and system upgrades on motors, drives, switchgear, control panels, lighting systems, and industrial power distribution. With Houston’s nonstop industrial activity and massive electrical‑infrastructure footprint, this role is essential for ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient electrical system performance.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain electrical systems including motors, VFDs, MCCs, switchgear, and control panels.
- Perform preventive maintenance on electrical equipment including inspections, testing, cleaning, and component replacement.
- Diagnose issues with circuits, relays, sensors, transformers, breakers, and power‑distribution systems.
- Install, repair, and maintain electrical wiring, conduit, lighting, and industrial electrical components.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, PLC ladder logic, and equipment manuals.
- Assist with PLC troubleshooting, I/O checks, and control‑system diagnostics (as permitted by skill level).
- Perform lockout/tagout procedures and ensure compliance with all electrical safety standards.
- Support maintenance of generators, UPS systems, and backup‑power equipment.
- Document maintenance activities, work orders, parts usage, and system performance data.
- Collaborate with maintenance teams, engineers, and operations personnel to resolve equipment issues.
- Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and electrical system modifications.
- Respond to emergency maintenance calls and support 24/7 operations as needed.
- Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and Texas electrical codes.
- Maintain clean, safe work areas and follow all company safety protocols.
- Participate in ongoing training and technical development.
Education
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical school training in Electrical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or related field preferred.
Required Skills and Experience
- 5+ years of experience as a Maintenance Electrician or Industrial Electrician.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, power distribution, motors, drives, and control circuits.
- Ability to troubleshoot motors, VFDs, relays, sensors, breakers, and electrical panels.
- Experience with multimeters, megohm testers, thermal imagers, and other diagnostic tools.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Strong knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and electrical safety procedures.
- Experience with industrial equipment such as pumps, conveyors, compressors, and production machinery.
- Strong communication, documentation, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- State of Texas Journeyman or Master Electrician License (highly preferred).
- Experience in petrochemical, refinery, or heavy‑industrial environments.
- Familiarity with PLCs (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens) and industrial automation systems.
- Experience with CMMS platforms for work orders and preventive maintenance.
- Certifications such as OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, or industrial electrical credentials.
- Background in high‑voltage systems, switchgear maintenance, or power‑quality analysis.
