We are a national engineering and technical staffing agency specializing in recruiting Lead HVAC Technicians for high‑growth commercial, industrial, and mission‑critical environments. Our client is a leading mechanical services provider supporting office buildings, hospitals, universities, data centers, manufacturing plants, and large‑scale commercial facilities.

Their service teams perform advanced diagnostics, repairs, preventive maintenance, and system optimization on a wide range of HVAC equipment including rooftop units (RTUs), air handlers, VAV systems, VRF/VRV systems, boilers, chillers, and building automation controls. As a Lead HVAC Technician, you will serve as the senior field expert, mentor junior technicians, and ensure high‑quality service delivery across multiple sites.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and perform service, troubleshooting, and repair of commercial HVAC systems including RTUs, AHUs, VAVs, VRF/VRV systems, heat pumps, and split systems.
  • Conduct advanced diagnostics on compressors, motors, VFDs, sensors, control circuits, and mechanical components.
  • Perform refrigerant recovery, leak detection, vacuuming, and system charging in compliance with EPA regulations.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance programs and ensure all tasks meet quality and safety standards.
  • Work with Building Automation Systems (BAS) including Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls Metasys, Siemens Desigo, and Honeywell EBI.
  • Interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, piping schematics, and sequence of operations.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to HVAC Technicians and Apprentices.
  • Support system startups, commissioning, and functional testing for new and retrofit installations.
  • Communicate effectively with facility managers, building engineers, and service coordinators.
  • Document service activities, maintenance logs, refrigerant usage, and equipment performance data.
  • Recommend repairs, replacements, and system improvements based on diagnostics and performance trends.
  • Respond to emergency service calls and support mission‑critical HVAC operations.
  • Ensure compliance with ASHRAE standards, IMC, IECC, and local mechanical codes.
  • Maintain clean, safe work areas and enforce OSHA and company safety protocols.
  • Assist with project planning, material coordination, and jobsite organization.

Education

  • Technical diploma or associate degree in HVAC/R, Mechanical Technology, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent hands‑on experience in commercial HVAC service may be considered.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 7+ years of experience servicing commercial HVAC systems.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC systems, refrigeration cycles, and mechanical components.
  • Experience with RTUs, AHUs, VAV systems, VRF/VRV systems, heat pumps, boilers, and hydronic systems.
  • Ability to troubleshoot compressors, motors, VFDs, sensors, and control circuits.
  • Familiarity with BAS platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Metasys, Siemens Desigo, or Honeywell EBI.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and piping schematics.
  • Strong knowledge of EPA 608 regulations, ASHRAE standards, and local mechanical codes.
  • Experience with digital gauges, multimeters, vacuum pumps, recovery machines, and diagnostic tools.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and documentation skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Preferred Qualifications

  • EPA 608 Universal Certification.
  • OEM training or certifications from Trane, Carrier, Lennox, Daikin, or Mitsubishi.
  • Experience with energy‑efficient HVAC technologies or system optimization.
  • Background in data centers, hospitals, or mission‑critical environments.
  • Knowledge of hydronic systems, boilers, pumps, and cooling towers.
  • Certifications such as NATE, HVAC Excellence, or mechanical trade licenses.
  • Experience leading teams or supervising field technicians.
