Our client is a leading MEP consulting and design‑build firm supporting HVAC system design, project execution, construction coordination, commissioning support, and high‑performance mechanical infrastructure across the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage HVAC engineering activities across design, construction, and commissioning phases for commercial and institutional projects.
  • Coordinate HVAC system design with mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, structural, architectural, and controls teams.
  • Review HVAC drawings, duct layouts, piping plans, equipment schedules, and specifications produced in Revit and AutoCAD.
  • Perform HVAC load calculations, ventilation analysis, psychrometric evaluations, and equipment sizing using TRACE 3D Plus, HAP, or similar tools.
  • Develop and review sequences of operation, control strategies, and BAS/DDC integration requirements.
  • Support procurement activities including equipment selection, vendor coordination, and submittal review.
  • Lead construction coordination meetings with contractors, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Review RFIs, change orders, shop drawings, and installation plans for compliance with design intent.
  • Conduct site walks, verify installation quality, and ensure proper placement of HVAC equipment, ductwork, piping, and mechanical systems.
  • Support equipment startup, functional testing, and commissioning activities for HVAC and mechanical systems.
  • Ensure compliance with Texas building codes, IECC, ASHRAE 62.1, ASHRAE 90.1, and project‑specific MEP standards.
  • Prepare project documentation including progress reports, punch lists, commissioning logs, and turnover packages.
  • Assist with troubleshooting, resolving field issues, and coordinating corrective actions with contractors and vendors.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 7-10+ years of HVAC engineering or project‑engineering experience in MEP consulting or commercial construction.
  • Proficiency with Revit and AutoCAD for reviewing HVAC layouts, mechanical plans, and coordination drawings.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC fundamentals, mechanical system design, and building‑systems interactions.
  • Experience with load‑calculation software (TRACE, HAP) and energy‑modeling tools.
  • Knowledge of IECC, ASHRAE standards, and Texas building‑code requirements.
  • Experience managing contractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Ability to read and interpret MEP drawings, specifications, and sequences of operation.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and project‑management skills.
  • Experience supporting construction, commissioning, and system startup.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PE license in Texas (Mechanical).
  • Experience with hospitals, universities, airports, or mission‑critical facilities.
  • Experience with chilled‑water plant projects, hydronic systems, or advanced HVAC technologies.
  • Experience with LEED, WELL, or sustainability‑driven mechanical design.
  • Familiarity with BIM coordination, clash detection, and Navisworks.
