Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct energy audits, building performance assessments, and utility consumption analysis for commercial and industrial facilities.
- Identify energy‑saving opportunities across HVAC systems, lighting, BAS controls, mechanical equipment, and building envelope.
- Develop energy‑conservation measures (ECMs), ROI calculations, and cost‑benefit analyses for efficiency upgrades.
- Analyze BAS data, trend logs, schedules, alarms, and control sequences to optimize building performance.
- Work with BAS platforms including Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls Metasys, Siemens Desigo, Honeywell EBI, and Schneider EcoStruxure.
- Develop and implement energy‑management strategies including load shedding, demand response, peak‑shaving, and equipment scheduling.
- Collaborate with HVAC technicians, controls technicians, facility engineers, and sustainability teams.
- Prepare measurement and verification (M&V) reports in accordance with IPMVP standards.
- Support LEED, WELL, ENERGY STAR, and sustainability certification initiatives.
- Develop dashboards, analytics reports, and energy‑performance summaries for stakeholders.
- Monitor utility rates, tariffs, rebates, and incentive programs to maximize project value.
- Support retro‑commissioning (RCx), continuous commissioning, and system optimization projects.
- Interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, control diagrams, and sequence of operations.
- Ensure compliance with ASHRAE standards, Title 24, California Energy Code, and industry best practices.
- Provide recommendations for equipment upgrades, BAS enhancements, and long‑term energy strategies.
- Participate in smart‑building modernization, IoT integration, and advanced analytics initiatives.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Building Science, Sustainability, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent experience in energy management, HVAC optimization, or building systems may be considered.
Required Skills and Experience
- 7+ years of experience in energy management, building performance, or commercial HVAC/BAS optimization.
- Strong understanding of HVAC systems, mechanical equipment, and building automation controls.
- Experience with BAS platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Metasys, Siemens Desigo, Honeywell EBI, or EcoStruxure.
- Proficiency with energy‑analysis tools such as EnergyPlus, eQUEST, TRACE 700, or similar modeling software.
- Ability to analyze utility data, trend logs, schedules, and building performance metrics.
- Strong knowledge of ASHRAE standards, Title 24, California Energy Code, and energy‑efficiency best practices.
- Experience developing ECMs, M&V reports, and energy‑savings calculations.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and control diagrams.
- Strong communication, presentation, and technical documentation skills.
- Experience working with facility teams, contractors, and building operators.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Certified Energy Auditor (CEA), or LEED AP credentials.
- Experience with demand‑response programs, utility incentives, and energy‑procurement strategies.
- Background in retro‑commissioning, continuous commissioning, or smart‑building analytics.
