Their field service teams install, troubleshoot, repair, and optimize complex HVAC systems including rooftop units (RTUs), air handlers, VAV systems, heat pumps, boilers, chillers, VRF/VRV systems, and building automation controls. Typical Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC systems including RTUs, AHUs, VAVs, VRF/VRV systems, heat pumps, and split systems.
  • Perform diagnostics, airflow testing, refrigerant recovery, leak detection, charging, and system performance analysis.
  • Service and maintain equipment from major OEMs including Trane, Carrier, Lennox, Daikin, York, and Mitsubishi.
  • Inspect and repair compressors, motors, belts, pulleys, coils, blowers, dampers, and control components.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues including contactors, relays, transformers, VFDs, sensors, and control circuits.
  • Work with Building Automation Systems (BAS) including Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls Metasys, Siemens Desigo, and Honeywell EBI.
  • Interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, piping schematics, and sequence of operations.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, filter changes, coil cleaning, lubrication, and system optimization.
  • Conduct system startups, commissioning, and operational testing for new and retrofit HVAC installations.
  • Document service activities, maintenance logs, refrigerant usage, and equipment performance data.
  • Ensure compliance with EPA regulations, ASHRAE standards, and mechanical safety guidelines.
  • Collaborate with facility engineers, mechanical contractors, and BAS technicians to resolve system issues.
  • Provide recommendations for system upgrades, energy efficiency improvements, and equipment lifecycle planning.
  • Respond to emergency service calls and support mission‑critical HVAC operations.
  • Participate in ongoing training, OEM certification programs, and technical development.

Education

  • Technical diploma or associate degree in HVAC/R, Mechanical Technology, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent hands‑on experience in commercial HVAC service may be considered.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 3+ years of experience servicing commercial HVAC systems.
  • Hands‑on experience with RTUs, AHUs, VAV systems, VRF/VRV systems, and heat pumps.
  • Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles, airflow principles, and mechanical cooling/heating fundamentals.
  • Experience with refrigerants including R‑410A, R‑22, R‑407C, and low‑GWP alternatives.
  • Ability to troubleshoot compressors, motors, VFDs, sensors, and control circuits.
  • Familiarity with BAS platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Metasys, Siemens Desigo, or Honeywell EBI.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and piping schematics.
  • Strong knowledge of EPA 608 regulations, ASHRAE standards, and mechanical safety practices.
  • Experience with digital gauges, multimeters, vacuum pumps, recovery machines, and diagnostic tools.
  • Strong communication, customer service, and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • EPA 608 Universal Certification required.
  • OEM training or certifications from Trane, Carrier, Lennox, Daikin, or Mitsubishi.
  • Experience with VRF/VRV systems, energy optimization, or advanced HVAC controls.
  • Background in data centers, hospitals, or mission‑critical HVAC environments.
  • Knowledge of hydronic systems, boilers, pumps, and cooling towers.
  • Certifications such as NATE, HVAC Excellence, or mechanical trade licenses.
