Their field service teams install, troubleshoot, repair, and optimize complex chiller systems including centrifugal, screw, scroll, absorption, and magnetic‑bearing chillers from major OEMs. With a strong focus on uptime, energy efficiency, and mission‑critical reliability, the company delivers advanced mechanical service solutions across Georgia’s fastest‑growing commercial markets.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities
- Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain commercial and industrial chiller systems including centrifugal, screw, scroll, and absorption chillers.
- Perform diagnostics, leak detection, refrigerant recovery, charging, and system performance analysis.
- Service and maintain chillers from major OEMs including Trane, Carrier, York, Daikin, McQuay, and Smardt.
- Inspect and repair compressors, evaporators, condensers, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, and control components.
- Perform preventive maintenance, vibration analysis, oil sampling, tube cleaning, and system optimization.
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues including motors, starters, VFDs, contactors, relays, and control circuits.
- Work with Building Automation Systems (BAS) including Tridium Niagara, Johnson Controls Metasys, Siemens Desigo, and Honeywell EBI.
- Interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, piping schematics, and control sequences.
- Perform system startups, commissioning, and operational testing for new and retrofit chiller installations.
- Document service activities, maintenance logs, refrigerant usage, and equipment performance data.
- Ensure compliance with EPA regulations, ASHRAE standards, and mechanical safety guidelines.
- Collaborate with facility engineers, mechanical contractors, and BAS technicians to resolve system issues.
- Provide recommendations for system upgrades, energy efficiency improvements, and equipment lifecycle planning.
- Respond to emergency service calls and support mission‑critical cooling operations.
- Participate in ongoing training, OEM certification programs, and technical development.
Education
- Technical diploma or associate degree in HVAC/R, Mechanical Technology, or related field preferred.
- Equivalent hands‑on experience in commercial HVAC or chiller service may be considered.
Required Skills and Experience
- 3+ years of experience servicing commercial or industrial chiller systems.
- Hands‑on experience with centrifugal, screw, scroll, or absorption chillers.
- Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles, thermodynamics, and mechanical cooling principles.
- Experience with refrigerants including R‑134a, R‑410A, R‑123, R‑513A, and low‑GWP alternatives.
- Ability to troubleshoot compressors, motors, pumps, VFDs, sensors, and control circuits.
- Familiarity with BAS platforms such as Tridium Niagara, Metasys, Siemens Desigo, or Honeywell EBI.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and piping schematics.
- Strong knowledge of EPA 608 regulations, ASHRAE standards, and mechanical safety practices.
- Experience with digital gauges, multimeters, vacuum pumps, recovery machines, and diagnostic tools.
- Strong communication, customer service, and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- EPA 608 Universal Certification required.
- OEM training or certifications from Trane, Carrier, York, Daikin, or Smardt.
- Experience with magnetic‑bearing chillers or high‑efficiency variable‑speed systems.
- Background in data centers, hospitals, pharmaceutical facilities, or mission‑critical cooling.
- Experience with energy optimization, chiller plant sequencing, or central plant operations.
- Knowledge of hydronic systems, pumps, cooling towers, and heat exchangers.
- Certifications such as NATE, HVAC Excellence, or mechanical trade licenses.
